That is my favorite art quote. Andy Warhol said it, and I couldn’t agree more.
Whatever it is that you do, just do it with all of your heart. Share it with the world.
You only get so many chances to share your creative thing with the world. You deserve to authentically express yourself, and the world deserves to see that expression. Don’t wait, don’t put it off until you’re ready. You’ll never be completely ready, start now.
What other people think of you is none of your business. You are allowed to shine in whatever you will, and there will always be people who want to put out your light. There will always be people who will support you and hold you up higher so you can shine more.
It’s a matter of putting yourself out there so that your tribe, the people who will resonate with what you are doing, can find you. No matter what it is that you are doing, I promise you, your people are out there. They simply can’t find you if you don’t put yourself out there.
You should be aware though, that it’s going to take time and energy for the people who will appreciate and love the thing that you do to find you. You have to be willing to put yourself out there over and over again, every single day, any way that you can.
I think of it like this: who am I NOT to do my creative thing and share it with the world?
Many years ago, I thought that I wanted to be a dog trainer. So, I went to school to be a dog trainer. The instructor said that one of the guys in my class was a “natural”. She said he had that “x” factor that would make him a star, a dog training star apparently.
x factor? Really? Bullshit.
If you’re a singer, the only thing that separates you from the people who have record deals is consistent action to get a record deal, consistently putting the best of your voice out there for all to hear. If you’re an actor the only thing that separates you from the people that are in movies is consistent action to get big parts and putting the best scenes you can act out in front to everyone that you can. If you’re an artist, the only thing that separates you from the people who are well known in the art world, who are selling their art for loads of money to millionaires every week, is consistently putting the best art you can out there for all to see, consistently seeking out these type of collectors.
No one is going to discover you. No one cares about what you’re doing unless you give them a reason to.
Don’t save the best you can out out there for some later time. There is no some later time. Put the best you got out there now, today, and then do it again tomorrow.
